Welcome to the HP2 Lab at Illinois State University
We are an interdisciplinary lab run by principal investigators Dr. Kelly Clemens (Health Psychology) and Dr. John Matkovic (Health Education and Promotion). We employ observational, correlational, and experimental research designs in order to better understand how factors such as norms, barriers, perceptions, expectations, and framing influence health-related decision-making, intentions, and behaviors. Our lab is unique in the health field, as our combination of health psychology and health promotion allows us to follow research questions from the identification of mechanisms to the implementation of interventions.
Right now, we are particularly interested in:
- Differences in health behaviors and outcomes in LGBTQIA+ individuals
- The influence of social and contextual factors on college student wellness and health behaviors
- The influence of contextual and individual factors on vaccine perceptions and uptake behavior
- The influence of cognition (thoughts) and affect (emotions) on treatment effectiveness
- Developing behavioral interventions to reduce side effects and increase treatment adherence
See more about our current projects on our Research page.
